Fish Fury
January 13, 2009
Anyone who has read some of my blog knows that I was in Florida for Christmas. I spent a lot of time just playing Guitar Hero World Tour with my cousins, but I did spend some time driving around to various stores and malls to buy things.
What I noticed and became very interesting to me, is the amount of Fish on peoples cars there. Hopefully you know the fish I am talking about, the nice little statement of one’s faith in Jesus. We have a few people up here in Canada who have them, but you don’t see them very often.
Not the case in Miami it would seem.
There were at least two or three times the amount of cars with fish on them. I also don’t think that Florida has a reputation for being overly conservative. I think it’s great that so many christians are down there being proud of their faith, but these kinds of things will always cause a backlash.
I’ve spent a lot of time on the internet, wasting my time arguing with atheists. It’s pointless for both sides, because no matter what either of them say, the other will never budge. I know this all too well and have come to learn the futility in it. Even though I don’t do it anymore, I always wondered why these atheists always felt so vehemently about putting down us Christians and trying to destroy what we believe in. Granted, there are always some nutjobs that like to yell at people in the streets about hell and sin and destruction, but those are few and far between(and don’t get me started on how much I disagree with those people). But I think I understand why atheists, particular American atheits, hate christianity so much.
It gets shoved down their throats.
Religion is seldom mentioned on the news in Canada, it shows up sometimes, but it’s not a very common thing. From watching TV down there I noticed that it is talked about freely. Atheists drive around and constantly see all of these fish. No wonder they put one with legs or “Darwin” on their cars. For most christians that would be like having every homosexual put a sticker saying “I’m gay” on their car. Yes, we should all be more accepting, but none of us are perfect and no matter how much we try to be or think that we are opened minded we almost always have someone to persecute. Even the people who despise christianity for it’s views on homosexuality, will often then put down christians for it, hypocritical no? Almost all of us are in some way. Almost like we aren’t perfect and need help(wink wink).
I’m not saying that I now suddenly support atheism, I very much disagree with it. But I somewhat understand their frustration. They don’t believe in something, and are subsequently surrounded by it. My youth pastor once said “If you can call something stupid, then you don’t understand it.”
I guess I can’t call atheism stupid now.
